Charles Pentz Memorial Fire Training Award – Established in 1982 to honor a person that has done the most outstanding job training their fellow firefighters to suppress fires, save lives and property of the Commonwealth’s Citizens. The nominee can be a State Certified Fire Instructor. The period covering this nomination shall be June 1st of the preceding year to May 31st of current year, or it could be for a lifetime of dedication, and work in fire training.
The individual can only receive this award once.
William B. Phillips Memorial Fire Safety Educator Award – Established in 1982 to honor an individual that has done the most outstanding job presenting and promoting fire safety education to the community and its citizens. The period covering this nomination shall be June 1st of preceding year to May 31st of current year, or it could be for a lifetime of dedication, and work in fire safety education. The individual can only receive this award once.

Chief Robert W. Little Jr. Memorial Fire Safety Education Award – Established in 1982 revised in 2004. Sponsored by VFIS Inc. These awards are presented to the top nine Fire Company/Departments, who in the opinion of the Awards Committee, have done an outstanding job of providing Fire Safety Education
Programs to the citizens of their community. These awards are divided into 3 three Award Divisions. The divisions are based upon the total population that the fire company/department first responds*. The population figures are determined by the latest US Census and must be verified by the local Municipality.
Division A — Total Population of 10,000 or more
Division B — Total Population between 6000 and 9999
Division C — Total Population 5999 and less
First Place…$800.00 / Second Place…$600.00 / Third Place…. $400.00
Also, if funds are available the Fire Safety Education Committee will give a grant to all Fire Companies/Departments that submit an entry. Any Fire Company/Department not placing will receive an Honorable Mention Certificate and, a grant from the Fire Safety Education Committee. The Plaques/Certificates and Prize Money are sponsored by VFIS Inc.
Rules for entry of the Chief Robert W. Little Jr. Memorial Fire Safety Education Award:
1.) All entries must be a Career or Volunteer Fire Company/Department, County. Multiple Company or Regional Fire Organization duly chartered in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and be a member in good standing of the FASP.
2.) Entries must be submitted in only the following format: One Three Ring Binder Type Book. These entries should contain enough matter to substantiate the Fire Safety Education Programs of a particular Fire Company/Department. This may include letters, photographs, newspaper clippings etc.
Judging will be done on content. Avoid submitting pencils, rulers, etc. submit a photo of items used.
3.) All entries are limited to only what programs are done for Fire Safety Education and only those programs conducted between January 1st and December 31st of the year previous to the Convention. Violation is a 1-point deduction from total score.
4.) The following information must be submitted hard copy:
An endorsement by either the Chief or President of the submitting organization.
A photocopy of the current organizational membership card from FASP.

Letter from local Municipality verifying the total population from latest US Census. *
Name, address, phone number, FAX number or e-mail address of the Organization. **
Name, address, phone number, e-mail address of the Contact Person.
A Chronological listing (outline) of all the programs conducted.
A 250 or less word essay summarizing your programs with emphasis on the most effective program or any new innovated program that was successful. Such essay will be used to describe your program at the Awards Ceremony. Failure to comply with Rule #4 will result in a one-point deduction.
* First Respond Area is defined by the boundaries established by agreement/contract for the Fire Company /Dept. which the dispatching agency utilizes on the emergency call. If the entire governmental entity is used the entire population is counted. If only a part of the governmental entity is used, then that percentage of the population is counted. In all cases this must be documented and verified by an official of every governmental entity involved.

5.) The Awards Committee will notify each entry as to whether they placed or received Honorable Mention. The Awards Program will be held at 2:00PM on Friday of the Annual Convention. A representative of each entry should be present to receive their respective award. If one cannot be present the Fire Organization should make arrangements with the Awards Committee Chairperson to pick up the entry and the award. Any entry and prize not picked up by November 1st will be discarded and the prize returned to the sponsor.
6.) The First Place Winners in each Division cannot repeat that award placement in the following year.
7.) Deadline for entry is June 25th.
The Firefighters’ Association of the State of Pennsylvania is coordinating a scholarship program made possible by the generosity of the contributors of Pennsylvania. The objective of the scholarship program is to assist individuals desiring to further their academic education through college level courses in the Fire Sciences or related academic programs. Two annual scholarships will be offered in each of the six sections of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as prescribed by the F.A.S.P. as follows:
One $1,000.00 Scholarship Toward a Bachelor Degree
One $500.00 Scholarship Toward an Associate Degree
If applications are not received from the respective sections as mentioned above, the un-awarded scholarships will be awarded at the discretion of the committee.
Additional scholarships and varying amounts may be awarded at the sole discretion of the Firefighters’ Association of the State of PA and the scholarship committee.
A.) Any person who is an active member of a state, county, municipal, community, industrial or federal fire department located within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
B.) Children & grandchildren of deceased or living firefighters that were a member of the Firefighters’ Association of the State of Pennsylvania. A person need not be a member of the State Association to submit an application.

Applicants must complete all sections of the application and attach a statement of approximately 250 words why they are applying for financial assistance, why they believe this course will be useful to them, and their goals and objectives.
In evaluating the applications preference will be given to those demonstrating need, desire, and initiative. Credits previously attained in college should be listed and a transcript furnished if possible. Each applicant may be subject to a personal interview by a member of the Scholarship Committee.
Applications must be postmarked by June 15th. Applications postmarked after June 15th will NOT be considered.

Applicants will be notified of their success by mail and the names of all successful applicants will be officially announced at the Annual Convention of the Firefighters’ Association of the State of Pennsylvania.
